Setup Tailscale for Home Assistant Remote Access

Sign up Tailscale

Sign up in Tailscale is using some service like :

  • Google
  • Microsoft
  • GitHub
  • Apple
  • OIDC

I think there isn’t registration using other email provider

Add Other Device

We can install Tailscale on many platform like Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, Mac, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.

Android Setup

Download Tailscale in Playstore and login using your account, after that add your android device to the Tailscale network

Windows Setup

Install Tailscale on Windows Device and connect the device to the Tailscale network

Tailscale Add-on

Go to Settings → Add-ons → Add-on Store and search “Tailscale”

Install and start the Tailscale Add-on

Make sure to enable:

  • Start on boot → Start the add-on during the system boot
  • Watchdog → This will restart the add-on if it crashes

After starting the add-on go to log tab and find the Tailscale authentication/login endpoint

Then login using your account

After that connect your Home Assistant server to the Tailscale network

After connecting the devices you should see the “Tailscale is running” on the add-on logs

Make sure to disable the key expiry for the Home Assistant machine on the Tailscale admin panel

When connected and successfully configured the add-on will be displaying the Tailscale connection status

Exit Node and Subnet Routes

If you want your machine is connected/exposed to the internet you can enable the Exit Node

Also if you want device connectivity, cloud network integration, integrate entire networks you can setup the Subnet Routes
